Mapistry

What Mapistry is

A B2B Saas company delivering environmental data software to organizations that help them collect, track, and transform their required emissions data and make intelligent environmental decisions.

Mapistry leverages known policy requirements and standards established by various environmental organizations to create an experience tailored to the needs of environmental professionals. Our goal is to drastically reduce the time spent collecting, transforming, and monitoring data so users have more time to focus on corrective actions and preventative measures.

How I made it better

Throughout my time at Mapistry, I worked directly with engineers to shape the future of the product. Together, we delivered major feature enhancements and entirely new experiences that have drastically reduced friction in the workflow of many of our clients.

📈 Increased weekly average user activity (each time data was submitted) by 150% across an entire workflow within the app.

📉 Reduced the time it takes to configure data by nearly 80%
by implementing a guided Data Setup Wizard, allowing the user to more quickly gain value from the product.

👁️ Expanded adoption within our existing enterprise customers by allowing users to save Custom Views and manipulate data tables to fit their specific industry requirements.

🔔 Limit tracking and alerts ensured that users remained compliant, saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential fines.

📱Increased adoption with offline mobile data submission that also eliminated the need for duplicate data entry, saving users more time and ensuring data integrity.

👓 Established an accessibility team to work towards WCAG and ADA guidelines

Information Architecture & Navigation
While we worked to create a better data submission and configuration experience for our users, we uncovered gaps in the navigation structure that were proving to be more harmful than not.

I led discovery and research for a holistic redesign of the app's content and navigation structure. I developed an intuitive navigation concept with a 4-phase implementation approach that delivered meaningful, incremental improvements to our users over a longer period of time.
IA Concepts were used to communicate content organization and rationale to key stakeholders. These concepts were tested with real users in an unmoderated digital card sort.
The navigation redesign was motivated by 2 main user pain points:
🛑 Core functionality was too nested and difficult to access
🛑 After submitted critical data to our system, it was often undiscoverable to users later on

A compliance calendar

Users needed a way to integrate their environmental workflows with their calendar. We created an internal calendar that could track due dates for tasks, sampling events, and inspections. Users get an at-a-glance status check and the ability to view and edit details like task assignee, attached documents, and notes.
